Arms Race

What it was

Arms Race (armsracemovie.com) followed the making of a steampunk short film and, later, the six-episode web series Arms Race: Escalation — posters, premieres, behind-the-scenes VFX and prop-building, festival screenings, and the finished films themselves.

Why it existed

Arms Race was an It’s A Trap! project, led by Nigel Clegg. It grew out of the winding-down of our LARP days — we still wanted to make things together, and a steampunk short film (followed by the Escalation web series) was where that creative itch went next.

What I learned

Really it’s the story of a group of friends pouring the same energy that had gone into live-action role-play into filmmaking instead. It’s A Trap! got up to a fair bit more than just Arms Race — if you’re curious, that site is still up.
