Spiffing Review

What it was

Simon & Wayne’s Spiffing Review was a film and television review podcast that ran from 2009 to 2013 — back when “podcast” was barely a word. Episode reviews of the films of the moment, a run through the latest trailers in a segment called “the Trailer Park”, and the occasional special. It lived at spiffingreview.wordpress.com and shared a stable with ZombieHobbit and Arms Race.

Why it existed

Spiffing Review was mine and Simon’s film-review podcast — started back when “podcast” was barely a word. Mostly it was a good excuse to watch films and air our opinions, and, if I’m honest, mainly a reason to get to the cinema on a regular basis.

What I learned

It ran its natural course: when children came along, the regular cinema trips — and the recordings — quietly wound down. Looking back it’s a snapshot of a particular time: two mates, a stack of films, and opinions handed out freely. A good excuse while it lasted.
